Trading Cards

Are Pokémon cards worth anything?

Most Pokémon cards are worth cents. Older holographic cards from 1999 to 2003, first editions, high-grade graded cards and the rarest modern art cards can be worth $100 or more.

What most are worth

Common and uncommon cards, and most modern holos, sell in bulk for pennies each. Even many older cards are worth only a few dollars if they are played, creased or scratched.

How to check yours

  1. Find the set symbol and card number at the bottom of the card.
  2. Look for a 1st Edition stamp, and on Base Set cards check whether the art box has a shadow.
  3. Check the corners, edges, surface and centering. Small flaws make a big price difference.
  4. Search sold listings for the exact card, set and condition.
  5. If it looks like a top card, consider professional grading before selling. Fakes of valuable cards are common.
